160-Antique Kani Kashmir shawl, ecru ‘dochalla’, near mint condition, c1800 May 3, 2013 Uncategorized Fresh as the day it was removed from the loom; absolutely no sign of wear except for several small pin holes. The clear freshness of the fringes are a telltale indication of its past use, which appears to be virtually none. The Bharat Kala Bhawan Museum in Varanasi contains some of the greatest Mughal shawls, many completely intact, unused and it’s on these pieces two and three hundred years old, that one can see fringes of the exactly same pristine nature. For those interested I have more unusual info about this great shawl.
